Baz McAlister

Biography

Like all the most awesome superheroes, Baz McAlister is a journalist by day, but at night he leads a secret double life. Sneaking out of the house he heads for the insalubrious side of town, wields a microphone, and fights crime… with stand-up comedy.

Born in Northern Ireland and now resident in Brisbane, Baz has been a complete and utter geek since 1977 when he first saw that Star Destroyer rumble overhead. His ultimate fantasy involves Jack Bauer turning up to fight zombies on the Lost island in an X-Wing fighter which then transforms into Optimus Prime.

Baz has been jumping up at comedy clubs around Australia since early 2008, and has been a Queensland state finalist in Raw Comedy the last two years running. Being Irish, and therefore a man of passion, he has found the hardest part about writing comedy to be toning down the swear-words. So he figures, why bother? Likewise, he has found the hardest part about performing comedy to be staying sober. So he figures, why bother?

In his spare time Baz freelances for various publications, plays Xbox very well and soccer very badly, and is also currently labouring to finish about ten film screenplays, 90 per cent of which involve zombies.
